Walking distance: about 3/4 mile loop trip
Trail difficulty: easy, mostly flat dirt trail.

The answers to the questions in the clues for this webbox are located in Cape Hatteras National Seashore in far east-central North Carolina. Letterboxes are not allowed to be physically placed in national parks, national seashores, and other sites administered by the U. S. National Park Service. So, I have created this webbox. You must actually visit the area of the clues; however, you need to go to the Web to obtain your finders stamp.

Enter Cape Hatteras National Seashore, drive to the Hammock Hills Nature Trail trailhead on Ocracoke Island, and park there. It is across State Highway 12 from the NPS Ocracoke Campground.

Near the start of the nature trail look for a metal interpretive sign titled “Survival Secrets”. In the 1st paragraph (starts with the words “Wind, sun, salt”), in the 1st line, what is the 10th word?

Now, start walking on the nature trail, going either way at the split, and look for the metal interpretive sign titled “Hunting Success”. In the single paragraph, in the 1st line, what is the 5th word?

To create the mystery word, put the word from the second question on the end of the word from the first question (without spaces). Paste the mystery word (all letters lower case) into this URL (replacing the question marks “???” with the mystery word):

http://nostalgia.esmartkid.com/???.html

Now, plug/paste/type the new URL into your web browser and you will have completed your search for the Cape Hatteras Seashore Webbox.

Please record your find at www.letterboxing.org/ .
