Wainfleet Wetlands Conservation Area is located in Wainfleet on Quarry Rd. between Hwy#3 and Lakeshore Rd. The area is a couple of abandoned quarries and wet boggy areas.
There are plenty of mosquitoes, watch for ticks,a good helping of mud, also, the area is known for massasauga rattlers, and though sightings are rare be alert and maybe poke with a stick, and on hot summer days there are lots of muggles swimming in the quarry

#1. Barney- Park in the parking lot for the Wainfleet Wetlands and head west and left down into the quarry. Walk towards the water and look to your left, you will see a large tree and a large pointed boulder. Go to the boulder. With your back to the water and the large boulder on your right look to your left and see two more large boulders go to the second large boulder and look under the "rubble" at the back of the rock to find his best friend.

#2. Rail Trail-Retrace your steps to the parking lot and look for the opening between two rocks on the northern edge of the lot and go through the opening. This is the Gord Harry Conservation Trail, formerly the Rail Trail, and head west (left). After about 10 minutes you will come to the 3rd side trail, turn left onto this trail counting 35 paces. Look to your left a see the small maple tree with a pile of stones at the base. It is under this pile that you will catch your train.

#3. Oh Deer-Continue on down this side trail taking the path to the right at every fork that you come to.Notice all the deer prints on the trail? After a few minutes you will see a large pile of rocks go to this pile. Standing on the path with the large pile on your left, look to your right and see a smaller pile of rocks and a small cedar tree. There is a deer hiding in the pile of rocks near the cedar.

#4 Find a Fossil- The quarry and lip area have a lot of fossils if you look for them. Students from the local University come here to study and collect them. From this point the quarry is in front and a little to the left of you. Walk towards the lip of the quarry see the water, see the bridge across the water? Head to the bridge by walking to the right and south along the lip of the quarry, you will pick up a wide trail to follow. Just before you get to the bridge you will see a small pond to the right . Go to the pond, and follow the path that is directly right of the pond til it forks and there is another pond in front of you. Look to your right do you see the large boulder. Go to that boulder there is a smaller boulder behind it and two smaller rocks at the base of it. It is under these two smaller rocks that you will find a fossil. Retrace your steps back to the bridge.

#5 Wainfleet Wetlands- Take the road and turn left and cross the bridge notice the yellow trail signs up the road, that is where you car is parked. Notice there are quarries on both sides of you now so if you have more time explore the area. About half way between the end of the bridge and the yellow trail signs are two no parking signs across the road from each other. Walk 125 paces from the no parking signs towards the yellow trail signs and look to your left for a cedar tree. Your last quarry will be hanging in the cedar close to the trunk about 30cm from the ground
