This is the first box we have ever planted. We planted this box in March of 2014 in honour of "Fragile's" 14th birthday.

(Updated 09/22/2020 to reflect changes in trail markings)

Start: Hurd Park East Hampton CT. Begin in small parking lot off Route 151 just before traffic light on right side.

From parking lot there are two parallel trails leading into the park. Take the one furthest from the lot by yellow gate. Travel down trail until you come to a fork. Take left at the fork. You will pass a little cedar standing alone on your left. Can you spot the little dove in the branches? (We didn't see him the last time, he may have 'flown').

Continue past the cedar until you come another fork in the trail. Take the left and cross a teeny tiny bridge. Continue until path converges with three others at a green trail marker. Take left path, following green trail markers. Continue on until you pass over a fallen tree. (Tree may be gone after this amount of time)

Just past the fallen tree look to the left you will see two parallel stone walls stretching away from you creating an avenue of trees. On the right you will see another stone wall and a trail just on the other side of it. Continue straight past the right hand trail staying on green.

You will come to a large rock where the trail diverges, Green to the left and Green to the right. Which is correct?? Keep Right to Stay Right! :)

Follow green until you see a small bush with a large boulder behind it on the right side of the trail. Nestled next to the boulder is a smaller rock. These are the 'Sister Rocks". If you sit on "Big sister" and put your feet on "Little sister" and take a reading of 110 degrees you see through the trees a large rock ledge. Don't have a compass? "Little sister " helps point the way!

Head in a straight line from "Little sister" to the rock ledge. Hidden in the ledge behind some rocks you will find your prize. Grab a stick to clear any spider webs.

Bonus Box:

"Happy Birthday Kitty Kat" planted 7/2/15. In honour of the birthday of "Fragile's" closest friend. Now both 15 and still loving the woods.

Go back to the "Sister Rocks". Head further down the trail until you come to a divergence. Look for the green trail marker on the rock! One trail will head back and to the left, the green trail continues straight, and to the right of the green trail there is a rock path or ledge.

Feeling surefooted? Follow rocky ledge path.

Or, take the green trail around the ledge. Both will meet up at the end of the ledge. You will see the beginning of a stone wall ahead and a large boulder on the left side of the trail. Stand on the boulder facing down the trail. There will be a tall straight tree on your right. Face the tree and look to the left of it and you will see a large flat rock jutting upwards pointing at the tree. Make your way to the jutting rock and down to the lower level. Under the jutting rock you will find the bonus box!
