This box contains 2 stamps to be used together. You will need orange and black ink. Bring binoculars, bug spray, water, and snacks.

Warning- this is a very strenuous hike, about maybe 2 miles one way (?) with the first quarter all uphill. But, you will have very few people around if any, and peace and quiet with a beautful view of Strawberry Lake.
There are about 2-3 creek crossings, so wear appropriate shoes in case you get wet. We didn't, but you never know.

Getting there:
Take Hwy 40 to Granby in Grand County, CO. At the extreme western edge of Granby turn North onto Hwy 34, towards Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park. In about 5 miles, at the top of a long, steep grade, turn East onto Grand County Road 6. Be sure to buy and display a day pass for the Arapahoe National Recreation Area – they keep a close watch and it is very likely that you will be ticketed if you do not display your pass.(Thanks, Aljan)

Follow the road as if you were going to Monarch Lake. Between mile marker 6 and 8 (I think more like 7 and 8 but we forgot to write it down), you will pass an unmarked rocky trail on your right that goes uphill. After the trail on your left is a pullout where you can park your car (alittle ways up the road). The view from your car of the lake will contain a few rocky islands immediately in front of you (just so you know you are in the right place)

Take the trail up...up...up. It will level off eventually, but not until your heart is beating out of your chest for awhile. There will be a few creek crossings, one with a large tree you can walk across if you like. Eventually, you will come to a sign pointing you to Strawberry Lake - your final destination. (Remember what trail you were on to find your way back to your car). There is some old ruins, an informational sign, and a floating metal deck on the lake. Enjoy the views! Stay on the trails - DO NOT WALK ON THE FEN!! Look for moose across the lake - this is where we saw our first moose! Relax! Now go get your box.

From the Floating Mat Fen sign, walk back along the trail 80 steps. Look to your right and see the bare fallen tree up the hill with the root ball. It is straight behind the tuning fork tree with a curvy branch coming off it's left side near the ground. About midway behind the root ball tree, tucked under some wood and bark is your badge of honor. You earned it! You are definitely tough enough.

Please replace the box so it will not wash down the hill and recover with bark/wood so it is not visible. Thanks. Return to the trail and go back the way you came.
