This letterbox is part of the GO and Find Your Hero! program in York County, PA. It will be available from May 30, 2015- August 16, 2015. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
The GO and Find Your Hero! program requires you to search for up to 30 “autographs” of community heroes. These “autographs” are wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate onto your GO and Find Your Hero! rubbing page, available at any York County library.
The letterbox is located on the Hollow Creek Greenway in Springfield Township. GO York! level of difficulty = Easy
- Park in the designated Hollow Creek Trail parking lot and walk to the yellow posts marking the start of the trail.
- Follow the trail over the driveway, through 2 more sets of yellow posts and clockwise until you reach Valley Road.
- Look both ways (cars come fast around the bend) and cross carefully.
- Continue on the trail up a long gradual hill. (Keep an eye out for deer tracks along the way!)
- After you reach the top of the hill, travel down and around a bend to the left, reaching the first of 2 rusty colored bridges (Peek over the edge and look for small fish in the flowing creek.)
- Continue along the trail as it bends to the right to reach the first bench courtesy of an Eagle Scout.
- Follow the trail around another bend to the left and carefully cross another street.
- Continue to follow the trail along the creek for about another ¼ mile until making a sharp bend to the right and reaching a second rusty colored bridge.
- Walk just a few more steps to find the second bench and have a seat.
- Look back toward the fence you have been walking beside most of the hike and the autograph you seek will now be visible.
- Retrace your path over the bridge, across the street, over another bridge and across another street before returning to your vehicle.
