This letterbox is part of the GO and Find Your Hero! program in York County, PA. It will be available from May 30, 2015- August 16, 2015. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
The GO and Find Your Hero! program requires you to search for up to 30 “autographs” of community heroes. These “autographs” are wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate onto your GO and Find Your Hero! rubbing page, available at any York County library.
The letterbox is located at Lock 12 Recreation Area and should be accessed from the lower parking area. GO York! level of difficulty = Moderate
- Locate and park near the information sign board. Please read these instructions carefully, especially regarding the danger of high flowing water and climbing on rocks.
- From the sign board, continue downhill on the sidewalk until you reach a bridge.
- Cross the bridge and remain on the path.
- Walk up a few steps and along the Lock itself until you reach the end and another bridge.
- Cross this bridge and turn left following the blue flares painted on the trees. Be careful at some points due to the narrowness of the path.
- Continue on the path past seven blue flares. Right before the 8th, you should find a fallen tree crossing the path and, to the left, a tree growing at a 45 degree angle. The autograph you seek should be nearby.
- To return to your vehicle, retrace your steps.
