From I-40 take Exit 185 (Transwestern Rd.). Go north a short distance and turn west on Frontage Road. At 2.1 miles you will swing north. From this point you are on historic U. S. Highway 66. You will pass the first Route 66 Auto Tour information sign on the north side of the road. When the pavement ends, continue straight (the pavement will start up again later on). At 7.1 miles you will come to the second Route 66 Auto Tour information sign on the north side of the road. Park there.

Walk through the opening in the wood fence. You are now on the 1931 alignment of old Route 66. Walk for a short distance until you come to an old concrete culvert. From the northwest corner of the culvert face north and go off trail at about 18 degrees (from mag. north) for about 43 steps to a large pine tree with 2 trunks. The box is at the northwest side of the trunk under a rock covered with some plant debris. Be alert for snakes.

Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rock and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.

After finding the box, you may continue driving west on old Highway 66 to Parks. A short distance west of the turnoff to I-40 on the north side of Route 66 is the historic Parks General Store, an interesting old building and business to visit.

Contact me if the box needs attention: http://home.att.net/~azroadie/letterboxing.html

This box is in my “Historic Route 66 Series”. The other boxes in the series are: “Don’t Forget Winona 66 [AZ]”, “Hackberry 66 [AZ]”, “Moabi 66 [CA]”, “Moabi 66 - II [CA]”, “Navajo 66 [AZ]”, and “Topock 66 [AZ]”.
