Have you ever heard of a Purple Cow? Did you ever hope to see one?
In 1895, Gelett Burgess wrote a delightful little poem on this colorful subject.
In order to find our little Purple Cow, take a walk along the UC Davis arboretum and enjoy the many different species of plants and trees along the way. Find your way to the South entrance to the Wyatt Deck (there should be a Western Spice Bush close by). To the right of the step you'll find him hiding under the deck, just where the pavement ends.
The length of the walk depends a lot on where you park. For the shortest walk, Visitor Parking Lot 5 is the closest, but the UC Davis Arboretum can be accessed at many points along Putah Creek and the full loop is 3.5 miles (if you are so inclined).
Parking Map
Parking is free on weekends and holidays. On weekdays, you can avoid buying the $9 Daily Parking Pass by using one of the metered spots in the Visitor Parking Lot 5 or parking behind the Whole Foods Market on D Street and walking in.
