Texans are fortunate to have such a rich and colorful historic heritage and trees which serve as witnesses to some of these historic events. Texas has also been blessed with trees famous for being the largest of their kind in America. "Famous Trees Of Texas" is a book written in 1970 by the Texas Forest Service that describes these trees, and this series will take you to some of them.

Located just over 500 feet from Comal Springs along the El Camino Real, Founders' Oak has stood sentry to centuries of travelers and settlers to the Guadalupe River region. Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, Commissioner General of “The Society for the Protection of German Immigrants of Texas”, came to the area in March 1845 and signed a deed for two leagues of land which included Comal Springs and this tree, thus founding New Braunfels. Today Founders’ Oak is the focal point of Landa Park, an emerald jewel of New Braunfels and the location of this box.

Directions:
From I35 go northwest on Seguin Ave about 1.5 miles as it become Landa Street, then turn right into Landa Park and go to RR tracks and park. near Founders' Oak on the right.

Clues:
Walk toward Comal River to see Founders' Oak. For the letterbox, walk a little further north on Landa Park Drive to Panther Canyon Nature Trail on the left. Go on trail past a bench on right to a bench on the left across from path branching off to the right. Go up on it 40 steps to 2 small trees on each side of path and go right 30 steps uphill on faint path. Go left 20 steps to a 3 foot post with clump of trees just left of it. LB is behind first tree under rocks.
