This is an easy to moderate hike with a few small ups and downs that has a round-trip distance (about 1 mile) which is just about the same distance as the hike up Diamondhead (one-way) in Hawai'i. The altitude of the top of Diamondhead is 761 feet above sea level.

This the first box we have ever placed as a group. Airborne Bob, his daughter, her husband, and Airborne Bob's only grandchild are collectively "Hawaii Four-0"". We all went together on vacation (before the granddaughter was born) to Hawaii and LOVED it!!! The view from Diamondhead is unforgettable and worth every step of the steep climb. Many people are scared away from a wonderful experience due to reports of the difficult trail. Airborne Bob was 66 years old with health problems. He took his time and brought water and a hat (both were needed). Airborne Bob and his wife (who had not hiked at all in many years) both made it. The hike wasn't all that difficult - only 1.8 miles round trip, and coming down was easy! Try it! You will remember it forever!

Directions:
I-95 Exit 56, Branford. Turn South on Leete's Island Road. Go about 1.5 miles and turn left at Stop Sign (by the package store) on to Route 146. Follow that East towards Guilford 1.5 miles. Just before passing under the railroad tracks, turn left into the small, unpaved Hoadley Creek/Pinchot Preserve parking area.

While you are here, enjoy the lovely woods and look for the "Wisconsin State Stamp" box LBNA # 12383 (an easy 15 minute walk at a slow pace). After that, continue on the trail for about 2 more minutes. At the top of a small rise, just before you go back down, you find 2-sister trees (one on each side of the trail, at least 1 of them is dead) with a rock about the size of a large horizontal garbage can on the left (West) side of the trail which seems to be pointing up to the left (West). With that rock on your left, walk 8 paces further on the trail (North). Then walk only 10 to 15 feet off of the trail on an azimuth in degrees equal to the altitude of the top of Diamondhead minus 672 (in feet) (If you do not have a compass, just walk at a right angle to the right of the trail (East), and you will be very close). The are ups, downs, rocks, dead trees and branches, so it is a very short but difficult walk to go in a straight line directly to the box from the trail. You should meander a bit! If you start going downhill you went too far. You will find the box covered by bark and branches under a small rock overhang. It is well hidden and like the Wisconsin box a little difficult to find, but it is there less than 15 feet off of the trail. Adjacent to it is a rock now covered in green moss which makes a good seat. Please seal and cover the box when you are done to protect it from muggles and Mother Nature.

Have a great hike!
