Though Sam Houston is usually sited as the first president of TX, David Burnet was selected before him as president of the ad interim government of Texas from March 17 to October 22, 1836. He later served as vice president under Mirabeau B. Lamar and as US Senator after Texas became a state, and Burnet County was named for him in 1852. He died in 1870 in Galveston and is buried at Lakeview Cemetery, where this box can be found.

Directions:
From I45 go south on 61st Street to Seawall Blvd and turn left. Go 0.2 mile and turn left on 57th Street, then go 0.2 mile to Lakeview Cemetery on the left and enter. Turn right at first intersection, and continue as it bends left to large stone mausoleum on the right with obelisk for Sherman and Burnet on the left.

Clues:
Burnet grave is on the far side of obelisk, but for letterbox go behind mausoleum 10 steps and a little right to oleander bush against brick wall. Letterbox is within trunks under a brick and grass.
