Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday, and yes, it’s all about the food! Turkey, Stuffing, Sweet Potatoes, and Pumpkin Pie- Bring it ON!

But truth be told, if you rolled out a table full of Sushi in front of me, I’d let the Turkey GO! So this box is an Ode to our feathered friend- so after your dinner, fight the urge to slip into that “Tryptophan Coma” and go for a HIKE!

To find your hiking destination, think about what you are THANKFUL FOR
and decode this location:

VHLUYZH AFFB

Park your vehicle in the lot and make your way toward the yellow gates. Start at the paved path at the gates. Just as you begin you will notice some larger rocks on your right, look down notice one has a metal plaque on it, take a moment to read the inscription and remember the days of the month in April and May. Continue to follow the path around the left side of the small building and continue on over the bridge. Follow the path to the Covered Shelter. Once you are there stand in the middle of the shelter and take a compass reading of 2x the date in May. You should see a sign up ahead in the distance, go to it, the ground on your walk may feel a little unsteady, but keep going. Once you are at the sign, follow it’s lead. You will start going Up, Up, Up- you might be regretting that second or third helping of dinner about now! Finally you can take a rest, a bench on the left, but don’t stay too long and start dozing! Continue on, you should come to a very tall and loud noisemaker on your right, let’s hope it doesn’t go off! Just ahead the path will split, at 230 degrees is the way you should stay. There’s another chance to take a break on your right, but keep going. After a bit you will notice the start of a rock wall on your right, keep to the path and you will walk between a split in the wall, but before you do, you might want to check out the view on your left, looks like another good place sit a moment. Right after you walk through the split in the wall, there will be a sign, it will lead the way. As you continue on, you will notice you are still following the rock wall, still on your right. When the rock wall comes to an end, you should also pause. From the last rock in the wall add together the 2 digits of the date in April and from the rock, take that many steps forward. At 280 degrees, take 30 steps to a large tree. Standing on the right side of the tree, take 25 steps at 300 degrees to a large fallen branch. Follow the Branch SW as it points to another fallen one, our feathered friend is hiding behind it, thankful for his pardon!

Return to the path and continue on, just ahead there will be a metal gate on your left, pass through the gate and take a compass reading of 330 degrees, go forward, (unless you brought your sled and want to try the hill!) there will be a path with a stairs, be careful, the stairs might be slippery! Continue down and follow the path, it will lead you back to the covered shelter and from there back to your vehicle.

Hope you enjoyed the hike, and have much to be Thankful for this Holiday!

Box Updates Appreciated- Thanks!
