Happy Times at the Beach
Location: Hammonasset State Park, Madison, CT
Boxes: 2
Clues:
Follow the road into the park and bear left at the rotary toward Meigs Point/East Beach. You will pass Meigs Point Nature Center on your left. Continue east to the furthest public parking lot (Note: there is an additional parking lot beyond this area but there is a sign saying no parking allowed.)
Start search at trail by solar powered street lamp.
Proceed on gravel path to Hammonasset Salt Marsh sign; face the water and walk straight ahead toward large clump of grass which is in front of rocky area.
Take dirt path to the right; hug this path to the right for about 15 paces. Landmark is a large gray rock on your right which has a horizontal “line” across the face of the rock. (“line” is a light colored part of the formation of the rock)
Look up and see a small scraggly tree to the left of an “opening” formed by 3 large boulders; reach behind a couple of small rocks inside the opening to find “Clam”, the first box!
Now on to the 2nd box!...Return to the Hammonasset Salt Marsh sign and go east on the gravel trail. Pass a tiny beach on the right; ahead at a fork, take the left path and follow until you come out on a large beach. Continue walking east on the beach until you are opposite a large boulder (boulder will be in the water if the tide is high.) From that point, walk about 60 paces to a large piece of driftwood on the beach. You will find box #2, “Oyster” behind some small rocks.
