One of the most common plants we think of at Christmas is American Holly. Also known as Ilex opaca Aiton. It is native to Florida.

Cyrus Teed, not a Florida native, came to reside at what is now known as Koreshan State Park in Estero Florida in 1894. Dr. Teed was an eclectic gentleman. He pioneered his own theory of the Universe, known as the Cellular Cosmogony. In 1906 Dr. Teed was involved in an incident that left him severely hurt. He never fully recovered and died two years later as a result of those injuries on December 22, 1908. His followers believed that he would be resurrected on Christmas Day. He was laid in state for five days until the county health officer finally ordered his burial. He was entombed December 27, 1908 but his remains were washed out to sea during a hurricane in 1910.

There are so many beautiful places in this park it was hard to chose one to hide Llex. A good mix of water, sun and shade was needed. I found a grand looking white bridge that looks like it would be the perfect spot for Llex. Take a walk along the nature hike. Walk towards the white bridge. You will know you are in the right spot if you see a sphere on a pillar. Llex is off to the right 3-4 boards in if your back is to the Estero. No X to mark the spot here. Just a plus sign lies above Llex. This is a delicate area so please use care not to destroy any structures or foliage. Llex is gently placed for easy retrieval and hidden behind natural debris. In fact, originally I used a stick to prop Llex in so it wouldn't roll out.

Bring your own pen/pencil as this is a small letterbox. Please advise if Llex needs attention.
