There are two possible starting points for this hike. The longer of the two is 6 miles roundtrip, the shorter is 4 miles round trip.

For the shorter hike, drive as far into the park as possible and park at the Porter Family Picnic Area. Start up the Aptos Fire Road 1.5 miles until you hit Aptos Creek Trail. Take the Aptos Creek trail a total of .5 miles. You will cross two shallow streams via some easy rock hopping and then meander through the forest until you come upon a sign that marks the "1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake".

Take 80 six-year old sized steps uphill past the epicenter sign. On your right you will see a triple trunked tree. In the hollow of the tree is Kyler's Epicenter Letterbox!!
