March '06: Someone just let me know that the LB is soaked. Will try to get out there to fix up this box during the last week in March.

The Happy Turtle Letterbox is located at the Trout Pond Recreation Area in Wrentham Massachusetts. This is a pretty easy hike around a pond, but the bank of one side of the pond is pretty steep and may not be suitable for small children or unsteady people (but you can get there without walking along that bank). Walk less than a mile, clues direct.

Directions to TROUT POND RECREATION AREA:
Take exit 14B off of 495 onto Route 1 South. At your first set of lights, turn RIGHT onto Taunton Street. Follow Taunton Street. You will pass the Wrentham State Forest on your left (another letterbox of ours is there!). You will pass Beach Street on your left. Right after the Wrentham Senior Center on you left will be a road for Wrentham DPW (recycling center, Christmas tree dumping, etc) and for Trout Pond. Take that left. Immediately, there will be a fork in the road. Go right towards Trout Pond. You will pass a small brick building on your left and see a larger brick building straight ahead. Park in the parking area in front of the larger brick building.

Directions to the HAPPY TURTLE LETTERBOX:
After parking, follow the road to the left of the larger brick building. The road will turn into a dirt road and then you will see a fork with a large tree in the middle. Go right. Follow road along the side of Trout Pond. At far end of pond, you will come to a large dirt parking lot (usually there is a trash barrel there, but sometimes it goes missing). The road forks after this lot. Take a LEFT.

You will see a small trail on the left before the road goes uphill. Take this trail. It is narrow and follows the steep bank around Trout Pond. The trail ends at the land bridge across Trout Pond. You will see the small section of Trout Pond in front of you. Walk along the road to the right of the small section. You will pass a boarded-up brick building on your left as the road begins to curve. There are remnants of a man-made waterfall behind the building...kinda neat. Continue on road. Before you get back to the land bridge between the two sections of Trout Pond, there will be a very large dead white pine.

The standing part of the tree (the snag) is about 15-20 feet high. The rest of the tree is on the hill behind the snag. In the snag, about 3-4 feet up, is a hole. The letterbox is hidden in the hole and covered with pieces of tree and bark. There are a few snags near this point, so if you don't find it...check another one. Please re-hide very well.

After stamping, continue following the road and you will soon come to a T. Go RIGHT up the hill. You will soon come to another fork. Go RIGHT. This road will lead you back to the parking lot very shortly.

Please email condition of letterbox at jayandamy76@yahoo.com! Thanks!
