The Cumberland Land Trust Letterbox Series
Box #2 of 4: Atlantic White Cedar Swamp
You can park near the sign on Nate Whipple Highway. 5 minute walk to box. Trail continues and loops around so you can hike and come back on the same path.
1. Begin walking on the path. Trees are marked with white paint or white wooden triangles. (Warning: The path may be flooded.)
2. Pass over a stone bridge.
3. Once you reach drier land, begin to look for an Atlantic White Cedar tree on the right edge of the path. Its bark looks like this picture. It has lots of dead branches on the lower part of the tree.
4. Take about six or seven paces forward.
5. On the left you will see a log on the ground that has one end poking into an animal hole. You will see Princess Pine around the log. It looks like the picture below.
6. You can find the box under the other, raised end of the log, just one step off the trail. You don’t need to lift the log to find it.
7. Be sure to hide the box back where you found it.
