If you love to go biking, then you no doubt have discovered that Vilas County boasts more than 45 miles of paved, dedicated bicycle trails between Boulder Junction and Manitowish Waters. They are the most beautifully scenic northwoods trails in the state, and likely in the Midwest!

There are several places of interest to explore while biking the trail between Firefly Lake, where our favorite campground is located, and Boulder Junction. Oh, and this is our dog Greta's first camping trip, which was a memorable one!

One of the most beautiful spots is about four miles south of Boulder Junction, just off Highway M. Look for Cathedral Point Lane on the west side of the highway. Follow it past the offices until you reach a red and white striped barrier. Park here.

Follow the trail past the restrooms, staying on the trail to the right until you reach the water pump. From the pump, take 33 steps southeast to a fire pit and a nice view of Trout Lake. Follow along the top of the hill in a southerly direction until you reach 15 wooden steps leading down to the lake. Continue down the steps, then turn to your right and follow the shoreline for 20 steps. Look to your right and you will see a large White Pine with a Greta hiding inside its base.

THIS IS A POPULAR AREA, SO PLEASE BE DISCREET! AND PLEASE BE SURE TO HIDE WELL WITH THE LARGE ROCK AS IT WILL OTHERWISE BE EASILY BE DISCOVERED!

We welcome updates here so we know how Greta is doing.
