These letterboxes are located in Leeper Park on the NE corner of the intersection of Michigan St. and Bartlett St., near Memorial Hospital.
From Michigan St. you see a huge, old building which is the water works. You can also see white arches where there is a "garden of fragrance" for the blind. A plaque there says it was established in 1955. A thoughtful sentiment but, quite frankly, it could use some Master Gardener Volunteers!
The park itself has historic significance. City officials first started planning the park in the 1870's (!) At the turn of the century it was designated in honor of former Mayor David Rohrer Leeper. (I had always wondered how it got its unusual name) Also located there is the Navarre Cabin, built in 1820. Pierre Navarre, a fur trader, is considered to be the first European to settle in St. Joseph County, IN. I KNOW Europeans settled in Niles, MI in the 1700's. If you know more about the history of the area, please share! :D Today, an annex to the hospital is named Navarre Place.

CLUES: From Michigan St., turn East onto Bartlett St. Follow it to the end, then North on Riverside Dr. Park near the island cross over but walk the other way. You'll see a sign in a lovely little garden. Can you read it? Take diagonal path to big rock plaque. Turn to face the subject. "Casually" make your way to the stone support farthest to your right to find the Flowers for Mom letterbox nestled atop the stones and below the floor. Please use stealth to retrieve and replace!
After stamping, you can either walk or drive to find the Navarre Cabin stamp. Sit as if in audience at the Ziegler Performing Center of the Garden of Fragrance for the Blind. Look over your right shoulder to spy a huge multi-trunker with elephant skin bark. There's a hollow trunk stub with a wire through it. There you will find the Navarre Cabin stamp.

As always, mind the muggles! Re-seal and re-hide well, and write a note about your adventure!
