Thomas E. Ketchum (October 31, 1863 – April 26, 1901), known as Black Jack, was a cowboy who later turned to a life of crime. He was hanged in New Mexico in 1901 for attempted train robbery.

Berry Ketchum, brother to Black Jack, owned a ranch on the Pecos River not far from Sonora. Black Jack and his gang visited the area often.

Black Jack Ketchum waits to be discovered on a hill high above Sonora. To find him take the road behind the Church of Christ (no street sign) to the "Buckeye Trailhead".

At the first trail intersection go straight.
At the second trail intersection go right.
At the third trail intersection go left 65 steps and you will find the campsite. From the trail you can see his old saddle. Facing the saddle to your left are boulders with small trees growing at their base. The treasure is in the middle of those trees under the usual debris. Please rehide well.

Watch for snakes!
