Walt Disney thrilled children and adults alike with cartoons and amusement parks, but he knew that wonder could also be found right outside, in nature. Today, The Nature Conservancy’s 11,500-acre Disney Wilderness Preserve near Kissimmee stands as a testament not only to Disney’s words, but to the power of cooperation, perseverance and innovative thinking. Working with The Nature Conservancy, the State of Florida, and a number of other groups, The Walt Disney Company purchased a cattle ranch situated at the head of the Greater Everglades watershed to mitigate its expansion and transferred it to the Conservancy to create a nature preserve dedicated to wetlands restoration on an unprecedented scale. Visitors can hike, bird watch, and find this box Sunday-Friday (closed Saturdays) 9-5, while enjoying old Florida’s natural beauty.

Directions:
From I4 go south on SR 534 about 3 miles and turn right onto Poinciana Blvd. After 13 miles go right on Pleasant Hill Rd for 0.5 mile, go left on Old Pleasant Hill Rd 0.5 mile, then go left on Scrub Jay Trail to end for parking at Disney Wilderness Preserve.

Clues:
Starting at the education center, sign in and get a map then follow the sidewalk through the breezeway, past the restrooms and butterfly garden to get to the trailhead kiosk next to the pond. Go left on the Wilderness trail and continue as it changes from cement to gravel to grass. At jct with exit trail on right, continue straight 0.1 mile to next jct. Go left to Lake Russell and find the bench dedicated to Albert Harkabus. While facing it, go left into woods 10 steps to a fallen tree. Step over it and go right a few steps to its end. Letterbox is hanging in small tree about 1 foot high and is permanently attached so just unscrew top to take contents back to bench and stamp in.
