This one is a short stop...a quick jaunt across a rec area and 12 steps into the woods.
If you are on Highway 61 along Mississippi River in Minnesota, you can’t pass up the opportunity to stop at Lark Toys. It is a magical place with many great attractions including toys and fudge. One of the highlights is a handcarved wood carousel which our kids (and ourselves) can’t resist. To get to Lark you get off of Hwy 61 on County Road 18 and turn immediately onto Lark Lane. If you don’t turn into Lark toys you will very shortly arrive on a wayside on the North side of the road. Your adventure begins here.
Right in front of the parking area there is a brown sign where you hear about this living memorial to Peter Hein. From this sign take a reading of 30 degrees and walk this way. You will cross the mowed recreational area and arrive at the northeast corner. There is a wooded area and you will be standing by a multi sistered tree on the edge of the wood.
From this tree, take a reading of 35 degrees on the compass. Walking at 35 degrees, take approximately 12 good strides into the woods and you will come to a fallen log with a bend or ‘knuckle’. Here, under some sticks you will find your ride. Rehide and enjoy your visit.
