This is not a box for the faint-hearted!

Get a hold of Rich Lander's Book called 100 Hikes in the Inland Northwest. This is hike #9 and is a long drive north of Spokane and north of Colville. The hike is titled Abercrombie Mountain. To get to the box you have to go off trail to climb Hooknose Mountain as well. Luckily it is fairly open country and you just have to follow the ridge line. I would strongly recommend that you not go alone and take the 13 essentials with you. It is a 12 mile round trip with an estimated 6000' total elevation gain and descent because you essentially have to climb Abercrombie twice and Hooknose once to get this elusive box and return to your vehicle. It can be done as a long day hike but you need an early start and July, August and early September are about the only times that you can get this prize.

Once you summit Hooknose keep heading east across the broken rocks to the sheer NE drop off. Enjoy the view. Glancing back from where you came you will see a pine tree that is rather flat topped. It is essentially the only tree that is bigger than a bush up there. On the ESE side of this tree I planted the box tucked under the edge of a mid sized rock hidden with two smaller rocks that cover it nicely.

The stamp is my original personal stamp and is a bit rough but it needed a home in the mountains fit for a corvid. Be safe out there.
