Easy finds in a great camping area
Hand carved
Strawberry is a small town about 2 miles north of pine, which is about a 15 min drive north of Payson, on a scenic stretch of AZ. 87. If you blink your eyes as you pass through downtown Strawberry, look in your rear view mirror to see what you missed. After you pass Cabins on Strawberry Hill north of town, look for mile mark 291. Look for a pull off to Forest Rd. 141 on the right. Set odometer to 0 at the cattle guard and drive to the first camping area on your right. (Just passed some info. signs.) Pull in and look straight ahead toward a group of pines with some falling. Looks like pick-up-sticks. Find the stump with a rock growing out and you will find the eagle.
Box 2. Continue on 141 for about .3 miles and look right again. Another camping area. With the fire ring on your left continue straight and park with large pine on your left and a not so large one on your right. You will see a fallen log pointing to another stump with a rock on top.
Mission accomplished!!!!
The cabins you passed are a great place for a central location for exploring the area for a couple of days.
