Well known throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Pasty is a dish that has been spread the world over by miners from Cornwall, England. The ultimate portable dish, it was quickly adopted by the miners of the Copper Country.

Calumet, Michigan is home of the annual Pasty Fest, celebrating the pasty as the cultural icon it has become!

At the corner of Red Jacket and Armory in Calumet lies the Coppertown U.S.A. Museum. Park in the lot and look around, taking a minute to soak in the history of the area. The southeast end of the lot is bound by an ATV trail, which follows one of the old railroad spurs that passed between these historic buildings carrying items to and ore from the mines. Look here for a sign and read about C&H: The Copper Giant.

After reading this sign, proceed southwest down the trail to a sign that tells about the Underground Forest in the mines. From this sign, take a compass bearing of about 130 to a set of concrete steps next to the old 'sand storage' building. At the top of these steps, continue straight until you reach an old rail spur.

Follow these tracks Northeast over approximately 55 timbers till you come to a small group of birch trees growing through the tracks at an old switch. Here, there are two birch trees growing by the left rail. Look between the ties by these trees to find the prize.

When you get back to the parking lot, though it is difficult to see, on a bearing of approximately 225, there is a shopping center which is home to the winner of this year's (2014) commercial category in the Pasty bakeoff!
