Clare’s Creek Surprise!
Kitchens Lane is a nice way to enter Fairamount Park. This hike will lead you to a quiet place (and a neat tree), and I hope you love the letterbox!
From Wissahickon Avenue, heading towards Chestnut Hill, take a left on to Kitchens Lane. Follow the road down to the Kitchens Lane entrance to Fairmount Park and Monastery Stables. Head towards the dirt parking lot on the left, and the big brown gate marking the trail head. Follow the path down the hill, you will see green trail markers. At the bottom of the hill, you will see a bridge, take a right before crossing the bridge. You will cross over a smaller bridge and continue. Keep your eyes peels because if you look to the left you will see the First Baptismal Service Plaque. When you reach the fork in the path, go left and continue on. You will pass 3 beaches, at the third beach, stop. With the beach on your left hand side, you will see a large tree. Walk towards the tree. At the bottom of the tree there is a large hole. Peek inside, and you have found Clare’s Creek Surprise!
