Girl Scout Troop 5284 placed this letterbox as part of earning their “Letterboxing” Brownie Badge. Please avoid searching for this box during school hours.

Turn into the easternmost entrance of the parking lot at Beaverdam Elementary School. Take a moment to stop and read the brown and white sign that describes the history of the school. Park in the back of the lot, in the far left corner.

Walk up the hill towards the baseball diamond and you’ll come to a gravel track. Continue walking clockwise around the track. At the third light pole past home plate, turn and face the woods. There will be a trail entrance to your right. Follow the trail. You’ll pass “Observation Stations” 4 and 5. These are used by the students at the school to study Ecology. Note the wooden bird houses placed in trees just off the path; these were placed by Cadette Girl Scouts from Troop 490, who were working on their Silver Award. Also note the Tree ID signs, which were placed by Webelo Scouts from Pack 789. Pass “Observation Stations” 3 and 2, and continue up the hill by the cell phone tower. This tower was added in 2010 (?) to improve Emergency Communications in the area, but it destroyed a portion of the previous trail. Local Scout troops have attempted to refurbish it. At the top of the hill, before you reach the clearing and the picnic area, look for a tree stump to the left of the trail. Here, you’ll find our surprise! There will be a birdhouse on the tree to the left, and behind you, you’ll see a yellow “Webelos” sign.

To exit the trail, continue walking past the picnic area and the clearing, and you’ll return to the playing field and the gravel track.
