Down the road, in the Nichols section of Trumbull, sits a ¼ acre reservation of the Golden Hill Paugussett Indian Tribe. The lot was purchased in 1875 by William Sherman, who was never really proven to be of Indian ancestry. In 1886, Sherman gave the title of the ¼ acre to the overseer for the Tribe, to be held in trust for the Tribe forever. However, as recently as 1976, the small parcel was almost taken from the Tribe. It is the smallest, as well as the oldest Indian reservation in the United States today.
Make your way to the corner of Huntington St. and Shelton Rd. On Shelton Rd, notice the Shelton Land Trust sign, on your right, as you head toward Trumbull. Park in the lot at the logs. Once out of your car, facing the parking logs, walk toward the wooded area. You will come upon a path. Take the path until you see a crooked tree on your right that has three feet. Just beyond this tree is a four-sister tree. The box is entangled at the foot of the tree. Please re-hide as found. There is NO INK with this box. Please BRING YOUR OWN INK.
