SPECIAL THANKS TO BABY BEAR FOR REPLACING THIS BOX FOR ME.

Though Texas is not generally known as a backpacking destination, it does have one National Recreation Trail, the Lone Star Trail. This 128-mile trail extends from near the town of Richards east to just outside Cleveland, passing through the Sam Houston National Forest. It may be hiked year round, but winter and spring are the most popular seasons due to the mild southeast Texas climate. Usually the trail is not crowded, and hikers may observe a multiple-use managed forest with many ages and kinds of trees, plants and wildlife. There are also many parking areas where roads cross the trail, allowing you to hike portions of it at a time instead of the whole thing at once. So get out there and become a Lone Star hiker!

Directions:
Montgomery is about 50 miles north of Houston. From I45 north, exit at Hwy 105 and go west to Montgomery. Turn right (north) on FM 149 for 9 miles to the North Wilderness parking area of the Lone Star Trail on the left. It will be about 6.5 miles past West Montgomery County Park and 3 miles past the Little Lake Creek trail head on the right.

Clues:
Find the Lone Star Hiking Trail sign at the south end of the parking lot and walk through the fence maze to the trail heading south. After 125 steps you will come to a 4-way jct, but continue straight for about 375 steps to a downed tree that crosses the trail. Climb over this tree and continue for another 60 steps. You should be standing next to a large pine tree that is on your right, and a small oak tree ahead of you in the middle of the trail. The camo microbox is behind the large pine tree, covered with a sticks and leaves. Please re-cover well.
