From Hwy 3 South of Hayfork take the Rattlesnake Rd Turnoff. A little over a mile the pavement ends and USFS road 30n31 is off to the right and hard to see. There is no sign on Rattlesnake rd. People kept stealing it and it cost to much to keep replacing it. It is not far to Philpot campground the open season is usually form Memorial day thru Labor day. But you can park in front of the gate and walk form there if it’s closed.
My direction starts about 1/2mile up from the gate site.
There is a pull out large enough to park two to three cars this is a short cut on the trail to a waterfall. Look NW300* you should see a path down to the North fork of the Philpot creek. You will know you are on the right path when you see a rug on the path. Cross the creek. You will see where the self guided tour trail meets the short cut. This path leads to the waterfall go toward the falls NW340* about 24 paces . Look Left you will see a burnt stump you will find it there.
