Status Update 1/12/2004:
I was recently informed that this box got flooded over Christmas break so, it is currently missing. I will update this when it is replaced.
Avery Park is one of my favorite parks in Corvallis. There are great playgrounds, lots of open spaces, as well as some pretty unique featres. I hope you have fun looking for the letterbox, but take time to enjoy the park as well.
Directions to the park:
From I-5, take Hwy 34 (exit 228) west to Corvallis, approximately 10 miles. Before crossing the Willamette, turn left at the light (Hwy 20/34 to OSU and coast). Turn left on 15th St (first light) and enter the park. To the right is one playground and a parking area. There are two parking areas to the left close to the train engine.
Clues:
Stand at the front of the train and head off in the the direction it's headed for. When you reach the tracks, head North towards Mary's River. Stay on the EAST side of the tracks and before the bridge take the path down towards the river. (BE CAREFUL as it can be slippery.) The "bottle cap tree" should be on your left as you make your decent. When you reach the bottom turn around back towards your right. You should be standing face to face with Treebeard. The letterbox is hidden back behind his rooty wiskers.
