You will need it to find your way to marker 15 which is the starting point.
This series is just over two miles.
This is a temporary series. I will pull the boxes sometime in April depending on the weather.
Most of these stamps are in film canisters attached to the back of the trees with a wire. PLEASE leave the lid attached to the wire and just take the bottom of the canister off. Don't pull too hard because the wire is thin and will break.
Bring a blue ink pad or markers. All of the stamps should be blue.
Park in the main parking area off of Kimball Hill Road. Head across the zoo over to marker 15. You will need the map to find this. At marker 15 walk through the gate which begins the blue trail. Immediately to your right is a tree touching the fence. Here you will find the first box, ski jump.
Continue on, heading uphill. When you come to an intersection with a big rock, ignore it and take the right shortly after it, continuing to follow the blue blazes. When you come to a bridge, stop at marker 14 and look straight across the trail. Where two trees cross is where you will find box 2, aerials.
Continue along the blue trail heading away from the street. Pass post 13 and turn left at 12 to stay on blue. Head uphill and go through another fence. Pass post 11, where the trail quickly turns right and then left. Stop as the trail turns left. Look here on the right for two birch trees with a blue blaze on each. Look left for a pine that's about ten steps off the trail and holds box 3, snowboard-slope style.
Continue uphill on blue. Stop at post 10. Look left for two sister tree with one sister cut off at about 8 feet. Here you will find box four, biathlon, tucked into a pecker hole.
Head back to the intersection and head down the green trail. Pass post 22 on your right. Take 25 steps and stop. To your left should be a good size oak. On your right will be an overhanging evergreen of some sort. Underneath the shelter of the evergreen, is box 5, figure skating.
Continue on the way you were going. At post 21 turn right to stay on green. At the bottom of the hill, stop at post 20. Look left to a fluffy pine whose branches reach out to touch the trail. Look in back for box 6, alpine skiing.
Follow the trail for a short distance to a sign that says bird blind. Follow the bird blind trail to the bird blind. Enjoy the birds if there are any. We actually saw a snowy owl circling the field ahead looking for lunch. On your way out of the bird blind, look right for a cluster of three trees. Box 7, bobsled, is nestled amongst the cluster.
Head back out to the bird blind sign and take a left. At post 19 take a right to stay on orange. Pass 18 on left. You will be entering the zoo area and leaving the marked hiking trails. Stay straight and you will come to the A-frame picnic area. Immediately after passing it, head left across the snow toward the chain link fence. Look in the second cluster of cedar for the last box, skeleton.
To get back to your car, return to the A-frame and take a left, pass the gorilla cage and the playground which should be on your right. From here you can see the parking area ahead.
