This is a ‘Happy Special-Birthday’ letterbox. It was planted in celebration of my yoga-inspired friend, who is also a forever friend.

OM is a mystical mantra and sound of Hindu origin, which is sacred in various religions. It can be explained as the reflection of reality without beginning or end, embracing all of existence. It also is said to represent the divine in each of us, as well as our interconnectivity.

A river connects people in the physical world, and is the source of inspiration for writers, painters, historians, or anyone who has the pleasure of riding or walking alongside it. The Hudson River is a mighty example… the gateway to America.

During the 18th century, the Hudson River valley and inhabitants were the inspiration for Washington Irving, America’s first internationally acclaimed writer. His stories ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ and ‘Rip Van Winkle’ are his best known. The village of Irvington was named in his honor.

CLUES:
Find your way to Scenic Hudson Park, just south of the Irvington train station along River road. Drive or walk through the park entrance, turn right and walk to the river. You’ll find a path leading south. For approximately 3 minutes at a leisurely pace, enjoy the landscaping and sparkling water views. Look on your left for the ‘Let it Be’ tree. Just a few steps further on the right is a red maple, planted in loving memory. Enjoy the view of the Tappan Zee bridge… one day this too will be a memory. Turn around to face three rocks. One of them points at you… behind this rock, in the undercut space, is the letterbox. If you also find a baseball, could it be yours? If not, you decide.. keep or leave. Stamp in on a nearby bench then re-hide with stealth. Enjoy the rest of the park if you wish, and reflect on the beauty of the stories all around you… and inside you.
