NEW CLUES ARE UPDATED AND THE BOX IS READY TO WELCOME VISITORS!

Evergreen Peak ~ CLUES
Planted by: Marissa Moon and her mom, 9/25/13
Active as of: April 2014

The Evergreen Peak letterbox is in honor of all medical staff working in America and around the world. I, as are many of us, am very much indebted to certain medical providers - to them, I extend a heartfelt thank you. Not only do I wish to honor medical professionals - doctors, nurses, emergency responders, specialists, researchers - but I also hope that visiting patients and family members waiting at the hospital (especially younger children) will be able to have fun following the clues during their visit/stay. I also wish to expose more people to the beautiful views of the Issaquah Highlands. The letterbox name is derived from its elevation and the large abundance of evergreen trees throughout the area - there is no relation to the Secret Garden letterbox at Evergreen Park in Bellevue.

The letterbox is located very near to the Swedish Medical Center - please follow these directions* to reach it from Bellevue, or utilize Google Maps. "Traveling East on I-90, take exit 18 for E Sunset Way/Highlands Dr — 0.6 mi. Keep left at the fork and merge onto Highlands Dr NE — 0.9 mi. Turn left (west) at the first traffic light onto NE Discovery Dr — 492 ft. Turn left (south) at the next light onto 8th Ave NE — 0.2 mi. Travel down 8th Ave., until it turns into the Swedish/Issaquah main entrance."

For the sake of clarity, our start point will be the hospital main entrance. On foot coming from the hospital, walk on the front sidewalk (buildings on right, surface parking lots on left) past the emergency care entrance and ambulance bay.

The sidewalk turns to the left. You will see a stair railing. Go down the stairs, which double back on the right.

Turn left. Follow the path, paralleling a seasonal marshland and a rockery.

You will come to a bridge. Facing the bridge, the box is underneath the near left corner. You will need circle around to the left side of the bridge to get down on hands and knees and reach under. You should feel a concrete plateau of sorts, making a little alcove under the wood for the box.

An alternate route: If you want more of a scenic walk, park in the hospital parking lot, then walk back down 8th Avenue, take a right on NE Discovery Drive, and keep walking until you see a pavement walking path on the right just before the major intersection. Follow this path through the grasslands - it circles around to the right and if you keep on it, you'll come to the same bridge. Depending on your pace, it's anywhere from a 5 to 15 minute walk.

While your up there, please take in the amazing views of the misty hills and rolling grasslands. Also, breathe breathe breathe the beautiful mountain air!

Bonne santé,
Marissa Moon
