A vacation does not always mean a 7 day planned getaway to some far off destination. My favorite vacations are weekend getaways and often just a day-trip. Today, 9/7/13 was a special getaway for just the day. It was my family's first "Meet Me Halfway Day" and it was in the lovely Kanawha State Forest. My family drove in three cars from the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area of Virginia and I was already on a weekend getaway to the Marietta Sternwheel Festival in Ohio. But I too, headed to Charleston, WV and we all gathered for a "vacation" day and enjoyed a family picnic and made everlasting memories.

From picnic shelter #5 go to the paved path to the restroom shelter. You will cross a small bridge and then see horseshoe pits on your right before you reach the restroom building.

Go to the women's side and face the woods on the same side as the horseshoe pits. Notice a double trunked tree pretty much right in front of you on the bank. From the women's door it may be slightly to the left and three or four steps up the bank. My vacation letterbox is behind the base of the tree.

Please let me know how my letterbox is doing--thanks and have a wonderful vacation!
