Every spring Austin throws a birthday party for Eeyore, the depressed donkey from A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh stories. 2013 marked the 50th year of this celebration which features a drum circle, costumes, and a May pole. Since 1974 the event has been held at Pease Park, but when it originated as a picnic for English department students at the University of Texas it was held at Eastwoods Park.

Go to Eastwoods Park at 3001 Harris Park Ave, north of the UT campus. There is metered parking along the street. It costs $1.00 for an hour which is more time than you need. Take the main trail starting at the park sign. You will immediately pass between two cedar elms. Pass the playground on your left. Just before the tennis courts on your right is a statue of Eeyore. Keep walking along the main path until it forks. Go right. There will be a stone restroom building on your left and swings on your right. You are heading to a footbridge. Cross over Waller Creek here. On the far side of the bridge head to the right on a dirt path with the creek on your right. At the fork marked by a manhole cover, go left on a trail lined by bamboo. Watch for poison ivy at your ankles. You will come to a large fallen tree on your right. Immediately after it, go up a natural step formed by a log crossing the path. From the top of this "step", go another 14 steps along the trail. Stop and look to your right. There is a social trail heading into the woods. Go about 15 steps downhill. On your left is a large tree which is leaning away from you. The roots form a bowl which is filled with rocks. The box is hidden under the rocks.
