Pemberley, Derbyshire,
August 18
My Dearest Jane,
I'm sorry to say I laughed as I read your last letter. I am exceedingly sorry our Mother feels the need to visit Netherfield upwards of four times a week. Maybe you can talk to Papa? In any case, you and Charles must visit Darcy and me now that we have returned from our trip. I enjoyed visiting Darcy's friends, Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, and it was nice of them to invite us to their summer home for a visit.
Oh Jane, the house is beautiful. My first impression of it came along the town's main road, which runs north and south. The house is situated in the hills overlooking the main road and the sea. Darcy and I enjoyed many walks along those hills, and we found a favorite spot that was just our own. Just outside of the garden...which was in bloom while we were there and was just wonderful to walk through...and across the lane there is a lone Juniper tree. Darcy and I walked around back and found we were completely hidden from view. While we enjoyed the Johnston's company, we also enjoyed sitting among the rocks at the base of the tree and just enjoying each other's company. Darcy and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip and are planning on inviting the Johnstons to Pemberley to return their kindness.
In the meantime, you and Charles must visit us yourselves. I miss you terribly Jane, and I know Darcy would enjoy seeing both you and Charles. While you are here, Darcy and Charles can go look for an estate for purchase like you suggested in your letter. We would love having you close, and then you won't have to worry about Mama visiting so often. Please write as soon as you can and tell me when you will arrive.
Your Loving Sister,
Lizzy
