Clues
Walt Disney (native of Chicago) turned Carlo Collodi’s “Talking Cricket” into the much beloved Jiminy Cricket in the 1940 film “Adventures of Pinocchio.” You may also remember it was Jiminy Cricket who sang, “When You Wish Upon A Star.” These crickets who reside at Salt Creek don’t talk or sing, but jiminy crickets, they sure are loud in the summertime at Cricket Creek!
The hunt begins at the North Picnic Area parking lot. Facing West, you’ll see the access sign for the hiking/biking trail. This N/S trail can be explored later at your leisure. Follow the gravel path West toward Salt Creek that leads to the boat launch. You’ll see no pirate ships tied up at this mooring, for it’s a landing/take out for kayaks/canoes & other small skiffs. When you get to the flagstones, start counting, even the wee one. Mind you don’t miscount or you’ll end up in the drink! At #18, stop in the middle, face South, and head in toward the woods. Now you’re off the trail and into the wild. Please be discreet and don’t leave an obvious trail. You may be lucky and spy a heron or other wildlife when it’s quiet The ground slopes up for a very short ways and then levels out. Scramble over the stalks of plants, mind the hitchhiker burrs, and down into the woods. If you stray too far to the West, you’ll end up with wet feet. Look to the East. Like a bolt out of the blue~ YIKES! Has a UFO from the starry skies crash landed here? That fallen tree that looks like half the letter ‘T’ may be what it hit on it’s fateful journey. No alien bodies from the distant stars here though. Seek beneath the stones on the South side of this half buried saucer shaped disc and you’ll find where the booty lies.
BYOI&P~ Keep this box SUBROSA and re-hide well. Happy Hunting! Fair winds and following seas~
