CLUES: From Ventura Fwy (US 101 ) take Westlake S (CA 23) into the
mtns . Rights on Mulholland Hwy and Little Sycamore Cyn Rd. Parking
lot is 3.9 miles from last right on right where road goes left (Mishe
Mokwa trailhead)

Up the trail. Stay on MM until Balanced Rock comes into view . When
BR @23 degrees go down steepest part of trail to "dry" creek bed.
Trail veers right, then left. You now enter an area unlike others
you've seen; grasslands you might say. This area ends with a large
flat rocky surface on West side of MM. 220 paces to another dry creek
bed, after which trail goes right. A boulder larger than man lies AT this meeting point. With the large boulder within some feet to your right, step about 7 paces up at 213 degrees, then step towards the smaller boulder which is adjacent to the large boulder's top. What you seek lies under old leaves between the large and small boulders, and the man-high bush behind the small boulder. You will have to lean over the small boulder to dig into the nearly horizontal surface. Do not forget to move the branches back over the small boulder into their natural position.
You'll need to go up to find it. BR @76
degrees. If you turn around now, your round-trip will be 3 miles. You
may continue to Split Rock (Highly Recommended ! ) for a picnic and a
3.5 mile roundtrip ,or continue all the way to the Backbone Trail,
and return on it for a 6 mile trip. If you do this, you can go to the
top of Sandstone Peak (3111' ), highest in these mtns. -----
