From Oscoda, turn on River Road and go about 15 miles to Lumberman's Monument. Park in the lot and take Dune Trail (on right) to the Sand Dune overlook deck (1/4 mile walk). Enjoy the beautiful view of the AuSable River and the sand dune. Turn around and walk a few steps back to the trail on the left called "Forest Discovery Trail". Follow the trail for about 1/4 mile past a bench on the left, to a sign on the right that says "A Rotten Place To Live". There will be a large log behind this sign. The left end of log is hollow and you will find what you are looking for hidden inside (if the rabbit didn't get it!) Enjoy the rest of your woods walk for about another 1/4 mile back to parking lot. Have fun!
