This letterbox is part of the 2013 Roads to Freedom program, and is available from June 1, 2013 – September 2, 2013. To participate in the full program, please pick up your free Civil War Journal (program guide) from any Adams County Library or at the Historic Train Station in downtown Gettysburg.
This letterbox is located at Gettysburg Recreation Park. It is 0.62 miles in distance and is rated "easy" by Roads to Freedom standards.
- As you stand in front of the Charlie Sterner building, follow the sidewalk around to the left of the building.
- Cross a short grassy area to reach the paved trail near the back corner of the building. This is the Biser Fitness Trail.
- Turn left on the paved trail. As you pass the first baseball field on your left, note the distance from home plate to the right field fence. Add these three numbers together. ___
- Continue on the trail past the rest rooms and turn right at the intersection near the pavilions.
- Near the swings, take another right and continue to the “Y” intersection. Here you will need to go left.
- Ahead you will see a cedar tree near where the path turns right. Walk to the base of that tree.
- Standing near that tree, walk ___ (the number you calculated above) adult paces to the right of the tree. What you seek should be along the edge of the grass.
