Flutterby
While not a difficult walk (perhaps half to three quarters of a mile), the letterbox has fooled a number of seekers.
Last confirmed: Oct 23, 2010
****Temporarily not available*****
Box needs maintenance.
-----------------------------------------
The box is located in the Fort Custer State Recreation Area, located between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, Michigan. A Michigan State Park Permit is required; a daily permit is available.
The entrance is just east of Augusta, Michigan, south of M96 (which can be approached via I-94).
Clues:
Begin at the Eagle Lake Public boat-launch, at the north end of the lake.
Parking is available there. Check the website for a map.

The trail skirts the lakeshore, meandering towards the southeast.
Then a hairpin turn sends you to the northwest.
(Don't be fooled by a couple of false trails).
A giant oak is broken off about 25 feet up.
Its upright remains stand on the right – its fallen parts lie on the left.
Count February’s days in the usual year and step along the trail.
Meet Sandy Hump.
Now a log lies parallel to the trail. From its end, go 15 steps due north to an open-mouthed stump.
Flutterby awaits.
To return, either retrace or continue (with a leftward move at the choice).
There’s your car.
