If exiting from I-75, use exit 310. Head West toward Indian River. At the traffic light turn left. After you pass the school there will be another signal light. Go straight. You will be heading South on US-27.
If coming from up M-68 from Alanson turn right at the signal light.
You will be heading South on US-27.

May is the month for Trilliums in the Northern Michigan woods. This is a sign that summer is soon to follow. The most common Trillium in this area is the Great White Trillium. Trilliums are a protected flower and it is illegal to pick them or transplant them without a permit from the state. This is because the three leaves below the flower are the plant's sole food source. If picked it can take the flower many years to recover. Because of this many species of Trillium are endangered or believed to be extinct. It is important to enjoy the beauty of this flower in it’s natural setting.

Nature’s Wonders
Less than a mile from the signal light you will see Cooperation Park on the Right hand (West) side of the road. Follow the gravel drive past the baseball fields and the soccer field. At the back of the park follow the sign that says to Ski & Nature Trail.
Park next to the skate park. There you will see the trail head.
Start down the path. Your first choice will be left, right or straight. Go Straight.
Stop at a cluster of 3 oak trees with blue trail markers on them. Turn to the right. Take a compass reading of 7 degrees or step just to the left of the pine & find a cluster of 3 small trees. Head toward the tree cluster, about 15 steps. You will now notice 2 other clusters near this one. Look down low in the center to find the Trillium stamp (in the shortest cluster).

Forest Friends
After finding the Trillium stamp continue on the path. You’ll have another choice of Left, Right or Straight. Continue Straight.
At the next Y head to the left. Look carefully. Just ahead is an opening in the fence. Go through the opening. Take about 35 steps. Stop. Take 330 degree compass reading or look high toward the right. Find the 2 tallest trees together (oaks). Head toward these trees and find the Forest Friend there.
When you come out of the fence you can go the way you came or go to the left. Enjoy the rest of your walk. It will end where you started.
