Terrain: Fairly level on a trail with varied surfaces

The 77 foot waterfall is the main attraction at this park, but there are also many nice trails to explore. There are 3 trails that are home to their namesake animals, so be sure to look for them all – Bear, Ghost Coon and Fox Den!

After entering the park, turn left and park in the large lot. Enjoy the gardens as you make your way to the Dripping Springs trailhead. Take a detour to admire the falls from the overlook, but then return to the boardwalk.

Now it is time to start hunting that elusive ghost coon! Did you bring Old Dan and Little Ann along to help? Follow the eager hounds as they cross the bridge, race up the ramp, and cross the next bridge. They must smell that coon since they make a sharp left onto the Ghost Coon trail.

Noses to the ground, they follow along the winding trail until they reach a dirt road. They cut back in at “13” and leap left into the woods. Passing a large knobby tree on the right, they take a right at the “11” hole, then quickly sniff the “17” hole on the right. No coon here!

Howling, they take the next trail on the left (if you get to the “11” post, you lost track of the dogs and the coon). Passing a trail sign, they enter an open area with a dead log on left. Mouths foaming, the dogs race south to two utility poles on the ground and suddenly stop 3’ from the south end of the furthest south pole. Check this spot to see if they found the famed ghost coon!

After the capture, travel northwest along the ridge until you reach a bridge. From here you shouldn’t need the coon dogs to find your way back.

Please let us know the results of your hunt by sending us an email. Thanks!
