Time/distance: ~40 minutes; 1 mile with ~150’ elevation gain
Terrain: Hilly wooded trail

The 77 foot waterfall is the main attraction at this park, but there are also many nice trails to explore. There are 3 trails that are home to their namesake animals, so be sure to look for them all – Bear, Ghost Coon and Fox Den!

To find the shy fox, park near the campground restrooms and find the Fox Den trailhead at the south end of the tent loop. Make your way along the trail, using a few blue painted logs to keep you on course. Slink under the power and go right at an intersection. Ignore the path on the left and instead go down. Continue your descent past 2 arrows where a path merges in from the right. Stay on the original trail, zig-zagging to the bottom. Watch for a small double-trunk on your left and then stop at a white rock on the left. From here you should spot a tree at 310°. The sly fox has made his den under rocks at the base of the tree.

If you continue 40-50 steps further along the trail you’ll find a creek-side bench with a lovely view of a waterfall over the dam.

Please return the “fox in a box” to the same spot and make sure he remains hidden from view.

You can retrace your steps to return OR continue around the loop to make it a slightly longer hike (~1.5 miles).

We’d appreciate a report on your search for the fox since we live quite far away and won’t be able to check on him ourselves.

Hike length: 1 mile
