“Waterfalls” Tribute Letterbox

THIS IS AN ATHLETIC HIKE TO SEE ONE OF CT’S TALLEST FALLS!
THE EFFORT IS WORTH IT; THE TRAIL IS NOT LONG; TAKE YOUR TIME

DIRECTIONS;

You need to be on RT 42 (whether you enter from the West, from RT 8 in Beacon Falls, or from the East, through Cheshire). Coming from Beacon Falls, you will follow Bethany Mt. Rd. to Mountain Rd. to Roaring Brook Road. From Cheshire, you will follow Mountain Road to Roaring Brook Road, to the cul-de-sac, and park.

CLUES:

Enter through the gate on the gravel road, past the pond and tennis courts. You will come to a fork and reddish-orange blazes. Follow the blazes to the left, as the sign and arrow painted on the tree indicate. You might want to take Teeker’s “Backyard Noises” Clues with you. Continue past the two bridges and the old chimney.

Climb, climb, climb! Stop to enjoy the various views of the falls along the way. Maybe you want to stop to look for the Waterfalls thirty-four Letterbox. But keep climbing and following the red blazes until you connect with the blue-blazed Regicides Trail at the large clearing with the big firepit.

Standing at the firepit, you will see that the blue trail heads to the right and toward another set of smaller falls. The blue trail also heads to the left, up a rocky knoll and toward West Rock. Start to follow this left branch of the trail, but STOP at the tree which has the first blue blaze. Look to your right to see a tall solitary oak perched on the edge of a flat boulder. Look in the cavity beneath this flat boulder for the WATERFALLS TRIBUTE LETTERBOX. Please conceal completely when you have stamped in. You are in the vicinity of Rubaduc’s Q-21 and Q-22 boxes, and Grade ‘A’ Penguins “Quiet on the Set, Series 2. Altogether, you could collect 10 stamps from this one rigorous hike.
