Marjory Swope Park is located on Long Pond Road in Concord. Parking is available at the trailhead. A trail map can be found online at:

http://www.concordnh.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1262

Duration: between 1 and 1.5 hours

Box #1:
From the parking lot, cross over the little bridge to the kiosk. Start by following the blue trail up the hill. Very soon, the trail splits. Head to the left and follow the trail for a few minutes. It’ll be relatively flat and will run parallel to Long Pond Road. After a while, you’ll begin to climb and turn to the right, with your back to the road. As you climb the hill, you’ll see a very large pile of rocks on the left. Continue climbing until you’re standing even with the peak of the pile of rocks. Directly behind the pile of rocks is a tall tree. Stand at the base of that tree. Under a rock near where you are standing is Box #1. This is Hannah’s favorite animal. Please be sure to re-hide the box well.

Box #2:
Continue up the hill until you come to an intersection. Bear right onto the yellow trail. Follow the yellow trail until it intersects with the orange trail. At this intersection, turn left onto the orange trail. Walk just a short way, looking for Gilfillan Rock on the right. Stand on top of Gilfillan Rock, directly above the word “Gilfillan,” and turn so that your back is to the trail. Look for a sister tree in the distance, about 25 feet in front of where you’re standing. Behind the sister tree and under a few rocks is Box #2 -- Dad’s favorite animal.

Box #3:
Turn back on the orange trail, returning the way you came, back to the yellow trail. Turn left onto the yellow trail and walk a short distance to the foundation of the old Observation Tower. Stop when you are directly in the center of the foundation. Look 45 degrees to your right, and find three birch trees standing together. Box #3 is at the base of these trees, under some brush. This is Ryan’s favorite animal. Please re-hide well.

Box #4:
Continue downhill on the yellow trail to the intersection with the blue trail. Stand in the intersection. Just ahead and to your right, you’ll see a large mound of earth. Climb to the top. Pick out the tallest pine tree growing on the mound. At the base of the pine tree is the fourth box -- Mom’s favorite animal.

After replacing the box, continue uphill on the blue trail to the vista--there’s a bench and great view of Penacook Lake. Keep following the blue trail, which will complete the loop of the park and take you back to your car.
