Welcome to Sweet Sixteen Letterbox. This is our first letterbox that we have set up. Hopefully it all works smoothly. This was created in honor of our oldest daughter who loves letter boxing to celebrate her sixteenth birthday, thus the 16 theme. Your first step requires a computer search. This will give you your starting point. You will need a car for the beginning. Dogs are welcome on this search. Also, please be aware that this area that you will explore has the potential to have muddy spots, so dress appropriately. If there has been recent rains, some parts of this journey could be tricky. Plan 60-90 minutes to complete. Enjoy!
Using Google, do a search for “16 Buckhorn, Pa" for starting point.
Once at starting location, back into dead end, in front of for sale sign and park. This is at a traffic light. The store at 16 Buckhorn,Pa is on left, a “barrel” of a restaurant is straight ahead and “express” inn is on the right. Reset your odometer. Go straight once light turns green.
At light, turn left on Pa 42 N. At next light turn right on Millville Rd.
At 1.6 miles continue under overpass; make first right and park in stone lot immediately on left.
Face south, you will see a bike route sign. Take path South West, continue along path. A chain link fence will begin on right.
Walk South, South East 16 yards x2 after end of fence. Go West on path less traveled.
Cross small stream,continuing west, walk approximately 16 yards. A tree of 4 is on right. Follow path @300 degrees/west an additional 16 yards x3.
Veer South West, aproximately 240 degrees. Go 16 yards x2
Keep left,on the path 16 yards x2
Continue South, South East (approx. 170 degrees) along peaceful, wet and dry stones. Stop and toss a few, skipping if you can.
Facing the damp stones, head South East.
Follow colorful, stony beach approximately 216 yards depending on where you stop skipping. Stay along where stones meet land to the end of uprooted tree on left.
Approximately 16 FEET forward from end of tree top, take path ahead on left, going north. Continue up hill on path to sign. You may have to get creative to cross at base of hill.
At sign, continue South East. (Beware, no open fires) Walk 116 yards. Dispose of any undesirables – think environmentally.
Walk South East, 16 yards forward. Take a load off and enjoy the view!
When ready, continue South East to second rest stop. From seated position, look southward at 170 degrees for a feathered friends’ furlough. This may be hidden when leaves are on trees - approximately 10 ft off ground. From sign near feathered friend’s furlough, walk 16 feet south/ south west (approximately 200 degrees).
Get to the root of the matter to find the box!
When placing box back, be sure it is hidden from passer- byers.
