My family and I went to Kah Nee Tah Resort for a long March weekend and quickly fell in love with it. The kids played mini golf and swam, we relaxed and hiked and soaked up nature. Our two dogs Penny and Cowboy ran and ran through the hills. It helped that it was almost deserted, and we could have some family and quiet time.

We camped in our little pop-up trailer at the Village RV park, and one morning I woke up early and took the dogs on a hike. I came back to the campground later and announced that I had finally found a place to plant my first letterbox! While the kids swam I carved the stamp using the only tool I could find: blunt kids scissors....but it worked and I was ready! We hiked up into the hills and hid the box just as a storm rolled in. The hike up is pretty easy, about 30 minutes, but in the beginning there is one steep part.

On the hike down my ten year old daughter suggested I write the clue in the form of a story, and we decided to use her alter-ego " Isabelle" as the narrator. "Isabelle" is a spunky girl from Alabama who speaks in the most adorable accent. For some reason my daughter just launched into this character on the drive to Kah Nee Tah, so it seems fitting that the clue be from her perspective. She dictated the clue and I typed, teamwork!

Enjoy,
Mama Losterboxer

Clue:
"Hi y'all, my name is Isabelle, and I have so many stories ya know. But here's one a my favorites. It's about the time I planted a letterbox.

Now...I went to a place called Kah nee tah, funny name, and I wanted to plant a letterbox. So that's what I did. One morning when I was out for a little walk I came across this perfect spot to plant one. It was by a big boulder. Well, more like a REALLY big boulder.

I talked to my pops and my ma and we decided that we would go plant a letterbox up there by that boulder. So when my sister was swimming in the pool I made the stamp and then a tsunami came in the pool and well, my sissy she saw it coming so she got outta the pool. I really think the lifeguard should be better, ya know. We jumped the fence cuz all the doors were locked in case the tsunami got in. I said 'can we go plant a letterbox now?' and they said yeah, sure.

We were camping in spot 50 of the RV Park, and found a little footbridge on the SE side of the campground one day. I crossed that bridge and followed this really small, really red, and really really steep trail up to the top of a hill. That trail went from the footbridge all the way up to the left to where you could see some trees on the top of the hill. Once I got up that trail to the top I went to the right toward some powerlines that I saw. Soon 'nuf that little trail connected with a road! Be careful y'all, because that road has a lot of rocks that'll hurt your feet if you ain't careful. Anyways, I turned left on that road and kept headin on up and up toward the sky. Now I follow that road up the hill, and I saw a lotta power lines and I saw a jackrabbit. And ow, that jackrabbit bit me! So we kept on walking on, and lemme tell you, it wasn't no easy walk. But hey, I had Oreos in my pockets so I was ready to go. The road turned a few times left and a few times right and 'ventually ended up flattening out where I could see forever and a day into the distance.

Once we had walked along the flat part a little bit I told my ma and pops to see if they can spot two white markers on the left side of the road. They are about a foot and a half tall and made a wood, and painted pure white as can be. Most of the time I could only see one of 'em, but there's two for real. Anyway, those markers are a bit off the road, so just gotta keep your eyes peeled. I can tell you this, if you get to the big metal gate you gone just a bit too far. When you find those markers, look for a tree, a small tree (not no big tree) that is near the white markers. It is the largest boulder by them that holds the prize. My folks went and were lookin'. They were looking like a hawk, but then my daddy's blind so he was more feelin'. What do ya know, they found it! They really liked the carving I did of a sun goddess under a tree. Which makes me think why'd I got name this box Green Goddess when it shoulda been Sun Goddess? Makes no sense even to me.

So then we went back down the hill, cross the footbridge and back to the parking lot. And then I started writing this story and the clues so people could find it. And man I hoped they'd post somethin' online so I'd know when people find it.

And then we got caught in a snowstorm, our tire went flat and now we got into a luxury hotel area, you know... the usual.

And that was the time I planted my letterbox, the first one for me, and the first one in Kah Nee Tah.

The End
