Constellation letterbox #2
Drive north on 89A,past the VA and lake Watson. Pass through the Dells and head N.W.. On the right is the Phippen Museum. Turn right into their drive and park in the lower lot. Walk down to the entrance of the Constellation Trail. The path takes you through a low tunnel under the Hwy. Follow the trail to the crash memorial. Be sure to read the inscription and view the plane remain.
Take the center trail through a sylvan area with amazing emory oak trees. You will come to granite boulders. You are close to the box. At the 3rd white dot
(not the 4th) take one step down.( logs are in ditch) and turn right. Walk up rock incline leaving the trees on your left. Continue on the rock slab leaving the shallow gully on your right. Walk up 2 more slabs to a low dead end with a vertical stain in the rock. Turn right, take 5 paces and turn left into a narrow passage between 2 shoulders of boulders. There is a small pinion tree and a beargrass plant in the passage.
Continue up, keeping the taller boulders to your right. At the top there is a "wobbly" oval stain in the rock and some prairie grass in the flats just beyond. You'll find the box (at last) under the top boulder right next to a wee pinion tree.
Let me know you found the box. Enjoy.
